AIEP’s Dorm Orientation 2022

September 22, 2022

On Monday, September 19th, we held our Dorm Orientation for the students living in the Derby, CT dormitory. Our very own Residential Life Mentor and Coordinator, Helen Jin, ran the orientation while being assisted by Jeanette Pagan, Residential Life Mentor. We currently have 38 students in the dorm that are attending various private high schools in Connecticut such as Fairfield Prep, Hamden Hall, Holy Cross, Kingswood Oxford, Lauralton Hall, Notre Dame Fairfield, Notre Dame West Haven, and St. Joseph High School.

While living in the dorms is similar to a college lifestyle rather than living with a host family, there comes rules and responsibilities with that. This teaches our international students freedom at an early age, while also knowing how to handle and manage this type of lifestyle.

The orientation lasted about an hour and afterwards the students were given a physical copy of our dormitory rules to sign. Some rules stated certain items that were not allowed in the dorms such as drugs, candles, and lighters. Other topics Helen and Jeanette discussed were cleaning, hygiene, transportation, laundry, curfews, and other housekeeping items.

The academic year is underway and we are so excited to see all of our students thrive!
